FAQ'S

IS SWIMMING WITH SHARKS SAFE?

Swimming with sharks does come with a risk, however we at Cabo Shark Dive follow rigorous protocols, typical of the professional shark diving industry. These protocols are specifically implemented with tested and reliable safety measures to keep you safe.

HAS ANYONE BEEN BITTEN?

No one has ever been bitten on a Cabo Shark Dive trip. Before allowing you into the water, we teach you proper shark diving techniques so that you, and the sharks, can stay as safe as possible.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

We recommend guests bring their own toiletries, sea sickness medication, sunscreen and cameras. Although the day time temperatures are pretty warm, we suggest a light jacket for after you exist the water, especially between January and April. Everything else is included in your trip.

DO YOU HAVE PROFESSIONAL UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICES?

All of our tours include professional photography services. This means that while you are in the water our shark professionals will be capturing your amazing experience. We will edit, and send the photos to your email following the trip. All of the photos on our site are ones we have taken over the years, check out our gallery [deeplink to gallery] to see more!

DO I NEED TO BE SCUBA CERTIFIED?

Our Shark Diving Trips are snorkeling or freediving only, so you do not need to be scuba certified to go on this trip. The tour is open to everyone, from beginner to pro! For our scuba diving tour (with tanks) we require an Advanced Open Water Scuba Diving certification.

ARE MEALS INCLUDED?

Our most popular tour, the half-day experience includes water and light snacks. On the full day tours we include a box-lunch.

HOW FAR INTO THE OPEN OCEAN WE WILL GO AND HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE TO GET THERE?

We have multiple dive locations both in the Pacific and Sea of Cortez, so it may vary slightly from time to time, but for our regular half day tours usually take between 15 - 30 minutes to get to the location. On these trips, we never lose sight of shore. During our full day tour or special, long range expeditions it can take up to 2 and a half hours.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL WE WAIT TO SEE SHARKS?

Once we arrive at the location, the amount of time is quite unpredictable. This may differ based on the ocean current, wind or other oceanographic variables, as well as the proximity to sharks. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes, but sometimes it can take up to few hours for the sharks to arrive.

HOW LONG I CAN STAY IN THE WATER WITH SHARKS?

We usually provide an unlimited time to allow you to snorkeling with sharks, but our top priority is always your safety, so it also depends on the sharks behaviour. If they begin to show signs of aggression, your shark-diving professional will ask you to get out of the water to keep you safe.

DO YOU FEED THE SHARKS DURING THE TOUR?

Our tour is NOT a shark feeding tour, as strive to we keep shark behaviour natural and relaxed as possible. The chum that we use to attract the sharks is in a “chum box” closed with no free access for the sharks. We use a liquid mixture of fish oil and fish blood to attract pelagic sharks. In addition, we only use sustainably caught fish caught in the area such as skipjacks, mackerel, and tuna. We hope to help local fishing families, so we don’t buy from commercial fishing companies!

DO I HAVE TO BE A EXCELLENT SWIMMER TO ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE?

Absolutely NOT! Snorkeling with sharks is a safe, easy activity. You don’t need to be a good swimmer or free diver, in fact, you just have to float and watch the show! We have life jackets available on the boat, and are able to accommodate to all levels of proficiency.

WILL I SEE SHARKS UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL?

Yes! On our shark-diving tour the action is close to the surface, often you will see shark’s dorsal fins from the boat! You don’t need to dive, or go underwater at all in order to see the sharks.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEE ANYTHING ELSE DURING THE TOUR?

YES! We are in the open ocean, and the water of Cabo are filled with marine life, so anything could show up. In the past year on this trip we have seen: dolphins, sea lions, orca whales, turtles, mantas, striped marlin, tuna, school of mobulas, humpback whales, and more! When diving with us, expect the unexpected!

CAN I SEE SHARKS FROM THE BOAT?

Yes, and it’s so much fun! All pelagic sharks swim close to the surface following our chum line. They usually come very close to the boat and stay around for a long time!

HOW MANY OTHER DIVE BOATS ARE IN THE SHARK DIVE SPOTS?

Only us!! We are the only shark diving company in Los Cabos and we have personally discovered most of our spots, so we are the only one with the right coordinates!! No other divers or dive boats will be around, allowing for a calm, personalized experience.

IS THERE ANY PAPERWORK I NEED TO FILL OUT?

All guests are required to fill out a Cabo Shark Dive Liability Waiver. You’ll be able to fill out the waiver on the day of the tour or online when you book.
